About Cancún
Firstly, did you know that Cancún is only 50 years old? When it was first developing in 1970, there were only a few residents living there. The coast was formed only of mangroves, virgin jungle, and unexplored beaches. However, now there are over half a million people who call Cancún home.
It all started as the Mexican government took an interest in developing the country’s tourism sector to boost the economy. To find the perfect place, government officials analyzed statistics from several successful resort locations such as Miami Beach and Acapulco. Once they compiled information on the number of tourists, number of hotel rooms, average temperatures, average rainfall, and hurricane events and fed them into a computer program. The computer selected several candidates for a new resort town.
